Any case, whether it is for $10,000 or $10 million, consumes valuable resources in the corporate infrastructure. If you're like most organizations, trying to control the costs and evaluating the impact of a case is difficult at best. Considering how to manage litigation is the most crucial effort in a case. Furthermore, striking a balance between in-house and external resources means taking control of the e-discovery process early on.
LookingGlass & EDRM:
Summation
Companies expend a tremendous number of resources (IT, Legal, Management, Security, Time, Money) in the preparation and strategy of a lawsuit. LookingGlass greatly compresses the time required for steps 1 through 7 of the EDRM process. It provides instant access to the correct information in a matter of minutes and hours reducing the time and costs associated in preparation for litigation.

Litigation and the requests for companies’ electronically stored information (ESI) have driven costs of defending those lawsuits to unexpected levels with no end in sight. A company must walk through the following steps in order to access the liability, risks, and form a strategy when defending itself against unexpected litigation:
Information Management
Capturing data in Real-Time is the key to effective Information Management. Dramatic cost reductions and effective search are only achieved when Information Management is performed at the data inception point. Retaining all records, whether for business or regulatory purposes, is the most important step of preparedness for lititgation. This facilitates quick movement through the EDRM process through the pre-establishment of a searchable archive. LookingGlass provides this valuable management step with negligible resource impact.
Identification
The EDRM Identification phase is the process of dealing with ALL locations of information which is the duty of the litigants to to preserve and disclose in a legal proceeding. LookingGlass is designed from the ground up to handle this phase through its Single Instance Store (SIS) of all messages and attachments. By design, everything is stored in one location where searches will be "all inclusive".
Preservation
This most critical step insures that no one has tampered with data that might be part of litigation. When pending litigation surfaces, all steps possible are to be taken to establish a legal hold (protect data against destruction or alteration). LookingGlass enables quick discovery of pertinent data protecting it from manipulation or destruction while at the same time allowing dismissal of non-relavent data in a timely manner.
Collection
Collection deals with the ability to bring data in from multiple sources. In regards to email, this would entail the inclusion of ALL email and attachments no matter the current or past form. LookingGlass not only captures Real-Time and scans the Exchange database but it also includes the reading of PST files. This is significant given the loss of control usually experienced when PSTs are in use. LookingGlass collects this data into its SIS so ALL data can be searched quickly and protected via a litigation hold.
Processing
Removing duplicates and non-relevant data thus producing concise groups of case related information is the emphasis of the Processing phase. This phase is critical in keeping a lid on litigation costs as only the pertinent data is left for review. LookingGlass shines in this regard through its ability to eliminate duplicates, follow critical conversations and "set-aside" capabilities that earmark only the case related information.
Review
Evaluating the electronically collected and stored information, analyzing it for for relevance and privilege is what the Review phase is all about. LookingGlass provides the ability to review data and create subsets of information that produce the absolute smallest sets of case related data as possible. This extensive filter and review capability boils large information groups down to managable, case related data.
